• Summit beats Battle Mountain (33 to 30) and Englewood (27 to 7)
• Conference play officially starts week 5 (Valor, Englewood, Elizabeth, Ridgeview, and Skyview)
  • Weeks 5-9 determine league pairings for week 10
  • #1 East vs. #1 West (both teams guaranteed top 8 state playoff spot)
  • #2 East vs. #2 West (both teams guaranteed bottom 8 state playoff spot)
  • East side hosts week 10 game this year

4. Weekly Awards/Goals/Decals 

• Varsity players are starting to accumulate helmet decals
• Decals are awarded for:  big hits, touchdowns, tackle for loss, pass knockdowns, big blocks, and play over 20 yards, etc.

 Scrimmage Report 

1. 3-way scrimmage versus Berthoud & Thompson Valley is scheduled for this Saturday – August 29th @ 10 AM.
2. Varsity & JV will play in the stadium, JVC on the practice field.
   

Fundraiser 

1. A big thank you to all the players, parents, and supporters of CHS football.
2. Total earnings (as of today) = $5,005.
3. This money goes towards miscellaneous equipment, t-shirts, etc. 

Team & Individual Pictures 

1. Order forms were handed out yesterday after practice.
2. Pictures will be taken Friday – August 28th @ 330 PM on the practice field.

Parent Meeting & Player Handbooks 

1. A short parent meeting was held after the Blue/White scrimmage last Saturday.  Topics included:  description of all 3 levels, code of conduct, and attendance policy.
2. Players will be getting their football handbooks later this week. 

Spirit Packs 

1. Our last order of spirit packs should be in later this week. 
2. The spirit pack includes:  2 t-shirts, 1 pair of shorts, red and blue socks. 

Week 1 vs. Pueblo Central 

1. The varsity game will be played @ 7 PM next Friday @ Dutch Clark Stadium.
2. Freshman will play @ Pueblo Central High School @ 330 PM.
3. Junior Varsity will play @ home @ 12 PM

COACH’S CORNER
Tuesday – July 14, 2009

1)  Future Warrior was awesome.  We had 42 particpants.  The CHS players and coaches were unbelievable.  I will be sending some great pictures to Kim Andresky to load on our website.  Please pass on a big thanks to everyone for helping with the camp, especially Jim Hatlen and Cindy Bird for helping with registration.

2) Blue-White Scrimmage (all levels) is scheduled for 10 am on August 22nd.  The format will show all 3 phases of the game:  offense, defense, and special teams.

3) 3-Way Scrimmage (all levels) is also confirmed for 10 am on August 29th versus Berthoud and Thompson Valley.  The format will include only offense and defense.

4) Legacy & MNF have been great.  Last week we played Justice, Manual, and Arvada West.  Our passing game and defense has come a long way since the beginning of the summer.  Partcipation at MNF has been down this summer.  I'm not sure exactly why this is the case, but its opened up alot of space for younger kids to get a lot of reps.  Overall, I think summer football has been a success and we've got alot of stuff introduced.

5) Summer conditioning has been a steady 30 to 40 kids all summer long.  Again not the number I would like, but the kids that come are very consistent and have gotten a lot better.  I think it will be easy to see the improvements that have been made, especially in the area of conditioning.

6) Picture day with ZEMI has been confirmed for earlier in the season this year-August 29th @ 330 pm.

7) Fundraising will be in the form of gold cards.  We will be using the same person as the last few years, however he has changed companies.  The product will be very similar and still cost $20.

8) Player/Parent Spirit Pack forms were distributed today after weight lifting and are due by the end of next week.  Turning in a form is the only way to insure that you get the size and items that you want.  Otherwise players will have to take from the mass order that I make.  The price is $30 and includes 2-t's, 1-short, and 2-game socks.  Any player who does not have a practice jersey can purchase one for $13.

9) I don't have any new information regarding schedule or the status of our trainer for next season.

Wednesday - June 9, 2009

1. Spring Football

• Spring Camp was an overwhelming success.
• 35 – 40 varsity/junior varsity players
• Installed our base offense and defense

2. Summer Camp

• Unfortunately we were unable to attend Western State Team Camp.  However, all was not lost.  We just finished our own 6-day contact camp for 10th thru 12th graders. 
• 35 – 40 varsity/junior varsity players
• Camp finished on Saturday with a lineman challenge, 7 on 7 competitions, and a modified scrimmage. 
• Thank you to the QBC for all that you do for our players and coaches.  The refreshments after practice, pizza, and snacks were greatly appreciated. 

3. Summer Update

• Summer Weights (all levels) – Monday thru Thursday from 7 AM – 9 AM
• Monday Night Football (all levels) @ 6 PM in the stadium

4. Senior Trip Update

• Confirmed Date: Saturday, July 11th  – Sunday, July 12th
• At this point we are planning on 18 players and 5 coaches
• We will camp Saturday night, wake up, and raft a ½ day on Sunday
• Estimated return time = 5 PM on Sunday
• Cost is covered for all players who participated in the Beef o’ Brady’s fundraiser.  Cost = $75 for all other seniors wishing to attend.

• It is expected that all players (not out for a spring sport) attend after school workouts
• Spring Camp-after school (330-500) from May 18-21
• We will be hosting our 1st Annual Kickoff Classic on Friday-May 22nd @ 6 PM

2. Varsity Team Camp

• Western State (June 3-6) - Delta, Montrose, Olathe, Faith Christian, Holy Family, Gunnison, Pinnacle, Battle Mountain (maybe Lincoln, Horizon, and Mt Range)
• Waiver Forms are due ASAP to confirm your interest in attending
• All money is due by the end of Spring Camp – Friday, May 22nd
• Total Cost of camp = $250
• Camp Fee = $190
• Transportation Fee = $2,512 - $900 (QBC Fundraiser) = $1,612/40 players = $40 per player
• Camp Insurance = $800/40 = $5
• 2 Subway Meals = $15

“Getting Ready For 2009”

1.  Spring Football Schedule

• We will be hosting the 1st Annual March Madness Competition this year (after spring break).   
• The weight room is currently open after school from 315-500.
• As always we encourage all of our players to participate in a spring sport.  We will have a program in place for all football players not out for a spring sport.
• Spring Camp TBA.

2.  Varsity Team Camp

• Last year was our first attempt at a Varsity Team Camp (grades 10-12).  The camp was awesome and I would like to continue this tradition. 
• Western State (June 3-6) - Montrose, Olathe, Faith Christian, Holy Family, Horizon, etc. 
• Cost of camp = $190
• Additional costs would include transportation (district school bus) and possibly two meals (probably Subway).
